River Engineer

Education

Master's Degree, Civil Engineering (Water), University of Waterloo
  • Bachelor of Applied Science, Environmental Engineering, University of Waterloo

Lukas is a River Engineer specializing in ecological restoration, river processes, and sediment dynamics. He has advanced restoration projects from the concept stage through to construction, with experience in channel design, watercourse assessment, and hydraulic analysis. Lukas holds a water-focused M.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo, where his research examined sediment transport and pool-riffle dynamics.

As an engineer specializing in river and wetland restoration, Lukas has completed a variety of different projects throughout Southern Ontario. He is usually involved in several stages of a typical restoration project, including site assessments and field work, erosion hazard assessments and meander belt width delineations, watercourse restoration design, and construction observance. He is proficient in GIS and CAD applications and has completed several technical reports as part of client deliverables. He is also experienced in both 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling. He is fully licensed as an engineer through the PEO.

Through the co-op program, he has gained more than a year of experience working on the design of large-scale river diversions, shoreline stability assessments, and ecological monitoring programs. His master’s degree involved a study of sediment transport and routing patterns observed in a scaled down flume model of a creek.
