Toronto, ON – April 8, 2026 – The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) has selected GEI to deliver a feasibility study for the sluicegates at Wildwood Dam, a critical infrastructure initiative focused on ensuring the long‑term safety, operability, and resilience of this key water‑control structure.
Wildwood Dam’s four sluicegates—originally constructed in the 1960s—are essential for regulating reservoir levels, supporting flood management, and maintaining operational reliability throughout the watershed. As these assets age, UTRCA is proactively advancing a detailed inspection and feasibility assessment to identify mechanical and structural deficiencies, evaluate potential repair and rehabilitation pathways, and determine permitting requirements that will support the continued safe operation of the dam.
“This project represents an important step toward strengthening the resilience and performance of Wildwood Dam,” said Nino Zivkovic, P.Eng., P.E., GEI Project Manager. “Our team brings decades of specialized expertise in gate inspections, dam safety evaluations, and hydraulic structure rehabilitation. We are proud to support UTRCA in ensuring these sluicegates continue to function safely and effectively.”
GEI’s experts will conduct rope‑access field inspections, develop a comprehensive Gate Inspection Report, and produce a full Feasibility Study that outlines technically and financially viable alternatives. The work includes reviewing historical documentation, inspecting structural and mechanical gate components, interviewing dam operators, developing cost estimates, and recommending paths forward for improving gate reliability and performance.
Once complete, the study will provide UTRCA with a clear, defensible roadmap for implementing the most effective and sustainable improvements to the Wildwood Dam sluicegates—enhancing operational reliability, reducing long‑term risks, and extending the service life of this critical regional asset.
